The mission of the Kochan Institute for Healing Arts Research
is to develop, study and evaluate a wide array of pain
therapies based on ancient healing wisdom, modern Western
medicine, innovative biomedical technology, and noninvasive
CAM therapies. We are interested in developing integrative
approaches to treating acute and chronic pain that can
significantly improve the physical and psychological health
and quality of life of our patients.
Background
In 2001, Andrew Kochan, M.D. established the Kochan Institute
for Healing Arts Research in Encino, California to further
his dual professional pursuits as a clinician and researcher.
The Institute's mission and goals embody Dr. Kochan's vision
to promote the use of evidence-based health care modalities,
both conventional and alternative therapies, for acute
and chronic pain treatment. His unique approach to pain
medicine combines knowledge, experience, and expertise
in physical medicine, orthopedics and biochemistry with
a firm understanding of complementary and alternative (CAM)
medicine. The Kochan Institute for Healing Arts Research
strives to represent the best aspects of Integrative Medicine.
Clinical
Practice of Dr. Andrew Kochan and Associates
Dr. Andrew Kochan, the Director of the Kochan Institute
for Healing Arts Research, and his clinical associate Ray
Seiple, MA use a wide array of proven, evidence-based treatments
as well as promising investigative therapies to treat acute
and chronic pain. Dr. Kochan has expertise in prolotherapy,
one of the most successful and low risk complementary healing
modalities used today to treat and relieve symptoms of
musculo-skeletal pain. In addition, Dr. Kochan is an internationally
recognized authority in apitherapy (the medicinal use of
honey bee products), particularly bee venom therapy. He
is also a practitioner of metabolic typing as developed
by Dr. Harold Kristal for nutritional analysis . Dr. Kochan
has been using Botulinum toxin (Botox) for many years to
treat spastic limbs and has developed an expertise in using
it for cosmetic purposes as well as for treating migraine
headaches, neck and low back pain.
Mr. Ray Seiple is a Medical Assistant and an expert phlebotomist.
He runs the Metabolic Typing and Stop Smoking Now! Programs
and administers apitherapy treatment with Dr. Kochan's
oversight.
The
current goals of the Institute
1. Sponsor ongoing clinical research, in the form of case
studies, clinical monitoring studies, and placebo controlled
clinical trials, on both proven and investigative, safe,
noninvasive or minimally invasive, alternative treatments
for pain.
2. To develop a database of clinically useful research
findings produced in-house through the Kochan Institute
and externally through related research organizations on
noninvasive treatment modalities for pain relief and evaluating
the relative success rate of these various treatments.
3. To disseminate through published literature, electronic
media, symposia, and other venues relevant information
on scientifically documented (evidence-based) safe and
effective integrative treatments, including both conventional
and alternative therapies, for pain relief to health consumers
affected by pain, the general public, and professional
health care providers. |
